Hours Calculator – Duration Between Start and End Time
An hours calculator finds how many hours and minutes between two clock times. You enter start and end (e.g. 9:00 and 17:30); the result is the duration in minutes. If the end time is earlier than the start, we assume the next day. This article explains the calculation and links to our hours calculator.
Quick Answer
| Label | Value |
|---|---|
| Start | 9:00 |
| End | 17:30 |
| Duration (minutes) | 510 |
How It Works
Duration = end time (in minutes from midnight) − start time. If end < start, we add 24 hours (next day). Use 24-hour format: 9 for 9am, 17 for 5pm. Result is in minutes; divide by 60 for hours.
Additional Notes
Use for work shifts, project time, or any start-to-end duration.

If end time is before start time, we assume you meant the next day (e.g. 23:00 to 01:00 = 2 hours).
