Grade Calculator – Calculate Final Grade Required
A grade calculator finds what score you need on the final exam to reach a desired course grade. You enter your current average, the final's weight (e.g. 30%), and the grade you want. This article explains the formula and links to our grade calculator.
Quick Answer
| Label | Value |
|---|---|
| Current grade | 80% |
| Final weight | 30% |
| Desired grade | 85% |
| Required on final | 96.7% |
How It Works
Required final = (desired − current×(1 − final weight)) ÷ (final weight). If current is 80%, final weight is 30%, and you want 85%: you need (85 − 80×0.7) ÷ 0.3 ≈ 96.7% on the final. Assumes your current grade reflects the rest of the course.
Additional Notes
Use your overall current average and the final's percentage of the total grade.
