BMI Calculator – Body Mass Index and Healthy BMI

A BMI calculator gives your body mass index from your weight and height. BMI is used as a rough screen for underweight, normal, overweight, and obese ranges. This article explains how BMI is calculated and links to our BMI calculator.

Quick Answer

LabelValue
Weight70 kg
Height170 cm
BMI24.2

How It Works

BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height (m)². Height in cm is converted to meters (÷ 100). For 70 kg and 170 cm: 70 ÷ (1.7)² ≈ 24.2. Normal range is often 18.5–24.9; under 18.5 underweight, 25–29.9 overweight, 30+ obese. BMI does not distinguish muscle from fat.

Additional Notes

BMI is a screening tool, not a diagnosis. For body composition, consider our Body Fat Calculator. Healthy BMI for men and women uses the same formula; interpretation may vary by population.
